LEND-LEASE PLEA
Threshold Of Critical Actioas In Europe And Pacific COLONEL KXOX STATES CASE Rec. 1 p.m. WASHINGTON, Mar. 9. "Lend-lease must be continued because we are now on the threshold of critical actions against the enemy, both in Europe and in the Pacific," said Colonel Knox, United States Navy Secretary, addressing the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee. "If our fighting partners," he added, "are to strike with maximum force in the coming offensives, they must be equipped for battle." Colonel Knox revealed that the United States had transferred 1400 ships to the Allies, mostly to Britain, which will be returned after the war. Four thousand naval aircraft were also provided.
Colonel Knox was the final witness before the committee, which is considering a year's extension of the lend-lease programme. It is certain of approval. The chairman, Mr. Sol Bloom, declared that there was no opposition to it.
