DEBATE INTERRUPTIONS

STAND BY MR. SPEAKER (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. A very firm stand was taken in the House of Representatives last night by the Speaker, Mr. F. W. Schramm, in dealing with the background of talk and interruption sometimes experienced during debates, particularly when a speech is provocative. On this occasion Mr. P. Carr (Govt., Auckland West), who was contributing to the Address-in-Reply debate, was asked by Mr. Speaker to sit. down for a moment.

Then Mr. Schramm declared that there were too many interruptions .and that his attention had been called to the fact that there were a lot of interjections.

"They will have to stop," he added, emphatically. "I have to consider not only the House, but the public listening outside. I intend to take a strong stand in the matter."
