MEAT FOR CHILDREN
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. A statement was issued to-night by the rationing controller, Mr. J. E. Thomas, regarding meat rationing for children reaching the age of five during this year. Half a sheet of coupons had been issued to every child over six months and under five years at January 1, Mr. Thomas said, and those children reaching five years after that date would remain on half rations until the next issue of coupons in October. The dividing line between half and full meat rations was not the fifth birthday, but might be anywhere between five and six years of age. The position was a little different in regard to children attaining the age of six months. When this age was reached the parent should surrender the supplementary ration book for a child's ration book containing coupons for sugar, butter and half coupons for meat. The age bar was for administrative convenience and applied to tea coupons. When a child reached 10 the coupons were not available until the commencement of the next rationing period.
