Rec. 9.30 a.m. LONDON, Mar. 8. Having voted a Hunger strike unto death Hugh McAteer, the selfstyled chief of staff of the Irish Republican Army, 1 went to bed in Belfast gaol last night for the fifteenth day without food. He and 28 other members of th? 1.R.A., serving sentences for criminal acts, j complained about the food and other conditions and demanded political ! treatment. ! Eventually McAteer, who is aged ! 29, and his right-hand man, James i Steele, were chosen to be the first hunger strikers. McAteer and the 28 others, who started to hunger strike, later drink plenty of water. ! The Daily Express says that McAteer j j is now weak and showing signs of strain.
