DOMINION PUBLICITY
"GREAT OPPORTUNITY MISSED"
WELLINGTON, Tuesday.
The Government had missed a great opportunity in not sending overseas for the information of British and other Dominion troops some films of everyday New Zealand life, said Mr. T. L. Macdonald (Nat., Mataura) in the debate in the House of Representatives.
Many Britisn and other servicemen had expressed a hope to come to the Dominion after the war. Had some films been sent and shown to these men as straightout simple pictures of life in New Zealand, many of these other troops would have had their desire to settle in New Zealand confirmed. The Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones, interjected that there were great difficulties in getting supplies of films. . ... Referring to the pre-election publications issued by the Government dealing with the war effort, Mr. Macdonald said he objected to use being made of the New Zealand troops achievements for purposes of political propaganda.
