COWS BRUTALLY TREATED

SHAREMII/KKR SENTENCED

(0.C.) WHANG ARE I, this day. What Mr. Raymond Ferner, S.M., described as '.'inhumanity towards ton cows" earned Dave Waiomio, 24, two months' hard labour at the Kaikohe Court. The police stated it was not until Waiomio left his sharemilking job at Puketcna that the owner discovered the ill-treat-ment to his cattle. Accused, they stated, had attacked the animals with a stick studded with nails, an iron (log chain and a length of water piping. One cow had been injured over an eye, while others had long cuts caused by blows from the nailed stick along the spine and back. Accused was said to possess a wild, ungovernable temper, and he apparently attacked the herd in a fit of rage. Waiomio pleaded guilty.
