HEALTH PROPOSALS
British Scheme Not To Be
Rushed Through
SCOPE FOR DISCUSSION
British Official Wireless Rec. 2.30 p.m. RUGBY, Feb. 18. The proposals for a national health service were described by the Minister of Health, Mr. Willink, as the second part of the National Government's reconstruction plan, the first being education. He hoped there would be an early debate, then discussions with the interested parties, which would extend for the greater part of this year. The estimated additional expense to the rates and taxes of England and Wales was £50,000,000 a year. The scheme, he said, must not be rushed through. It was the essential foundation of a social insurance scheme. It was not a State medical service, but a national health service based bn the British system of government, and aimed at making still better use of health and the professional skill and knowledge which was serving the country so well during the war.
