WORE ARMY GREATCOAT
OFFENDER FINED £5
(0.C.) KAITAIA, this day. Remarking that local youths had been similarly penalised for wearing a military greatcoat, and that, as defendant worked for the Americans he apparently would not be without means, Mr. Raymond Ferner, S.M., fined George Howell, of Takahue, £5 for that offence in the Kaitaia Court. A constable said that Howell, wh*. admitted that he had never been a member of the armed forces, haci been seen in Auckland wearing a military greatcoat. His explanation was that he had borrowed the garment from a friend to work on the wharf a3 he had been going on shift the previous night. For accused, Mr. J. B. Reynolds said" "He was not parading in Queen Street or showing off a uniform to which'he had no right."
