GIRL SHOT ON ROADSIDE

(P A.) DANNEVIRKE,, this day. A double shooting tragedy occurred at 5 p.m. on Thursday the Ormondville - Makotuku main road, resulting in the deaths of Doi othy Ellen Carruthers, daughtei of Ml. M. F. Carruthers, an employee 01 the Dannevirke County Council, a" l ' Jack Donghi, single, aged 54, both of Makotuku. , „ . , •, According to the police the girl in company with two younger sistei s, was returning to her home fiom Ormondville, where she had gone to buy a birthday present for her father. Donghi, who was carrying a shotgun, met the girls and accompanied them. He is alleged to have made suggestions to the eldest girl and meeting with refusal he threatened to shoot her. His suggestions were again rejected. Donghi is then alleged to have shot the girl in the head from close range, ihe vounger girls ran away. " Mr. William John Golley, railway surfaceman, of Makotuku, who was motoring on the road, was attracted by the shot. He saw Donghi run away into some blackberries. Dongm was subsequently found dead in a gully 50 yards from the body of the' girl, he having committed suicide. Donghi, who was subnormal lived by himself .across the road from the victim's home.
