PROTECTING YOUNG WOMEN

Remarking that the primary duty of the Court was to protect young women, Mr. Justice Callan refused to entertain counsel's suggestion of allowing probation to offenders for offences upon little girls. Sylvester David Chalklen (Mr Schramm), aged 35, admitted three charges of unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under 16 and was sentenced to 12 months' reformative detention. Albert Victor Wilson (Mr. Aekins), who admitted indecently assaulting a girl aged six, was sentenced , to 12 months' reformative detention, his Honor remarking that it was a shocking kind of thing by a father to his own daughter.
