TIME WASTED
LAND SALES ADJOURNMENTS
The number of adjournments granted by the Auckland Urban Land Sales Committee in the past two weeks total half a day's hearing. This comment was made by the chairman, Mr. W. R. Tuck, at this morning's sitting of the committee, when he was asked for an adjournment of a case, as one of the solicitors could not attend.
Mr. Tuck said he realised absences were sometimes unavoidable, but he felt it should be understood that adjournments put the committee to some inconvenience. Not only did they deprive other people of hearings which could have been held in that time, but they wasted the Government valuer's time, since he had to leave other work to attend, and also put the other party's solicitor to inconvenience.
The chairman added that it appeared precedence was given to cases held in the Magistrate's Court and before other tribunals. It would help matters greatly if. when a solicitor or a valuer found he could not attend he put the facts of the case in someone else's hands. Two weeks' notice for a case to ba heard by the committee was always given.
