SERVICES' CLUBS
CHRISTMAS ARRANGEMENTS Although many clubs and hostels catering for servicemen and women have been unable to make elaborate arrangements for Christmas dinners owing to the gas shortage and Ihe difficulty of procuring foodstuffs, most of them will serve light luncheons and teas on Christmas Day. These will consist of savouries, cold -meats and the usual jellies, strawberries and ice cream. Dances and socials will be held by most services' clubs on Christmas Evo, Christmas night, and New Year's Kve and New Year's night. The Government House Services' Club will be holding a Chris r.mas Eve dance and party, and various oiuside organisations will hold functions at Government House for servicemen and women during the week until New Year's Eve, when all will combine in one final dance and party. The Catholic Services' Club will hold a light, tea on Christmas night, and dances will be held on the same night, also on the following Sunday and Monday. The Flying Angels Missions to Seamen has prepared an extensive programme for the entertainment of merchant seamen in Auckland. Functions will be held each dav until Thursday, January (i, 3 944. The main feature-of the programme is the Christmas Day function, to be held in the afternoon. A country outing and picnic will be held, and a programme ol snorts has been arranged. On Christmas night a party and dance organised by the Welcome Club will be held. On New Year's Day there will be another picnic, with a dance and distribution of gifts in the evening.
