AIR PATROL TARGETS Two On Fire And One Probably Sunk N.Z. Press Association—Copyright Rec. 2 p.m. SYDNEY, this day. "Direct hits on three enemy cargo ships, one of 8000 tons and'two of 6000 tons each, were scored tav our air patrols," states General" MacArthur's communiqtie. "Two were left hurning fiercely and the third probably sank. "Our heavy units, with fighter escort from South Pacific bases, in a daylight raid, sank one cargo ship and set fire to two others and also shot down four enemy planes. Four of our planes failed to return. "In an attack on an empty convoy the enemy lost 14 planes, while six others were probably destroyed by anti-aircraft fire from Allied* ships. One of our small craft of 2000 tons was sunk, but other damage was small. "Ground forces continvie to advance up the coast of Huon Peninsula, in North-east New Guinea, and have seized fortification points."
