OTAHUHU WATER
NEW SUPPLY NOW ON IMPROVEMENT IN OUTLOOK Monday was a red letter day for the housewives of Otahuhu, as it marked the fulfilment of a promise by the Otahuhu Borough Council to provide a first-class supply of soft water. During the past two months the water from the new well in Sturges Park has been pumped only at the week-ends, but owing to the quantity of hard water from the Mount Richmond well still in the pipes, any beneficial effects have, to some extent, been lost. On Monday the Sturges' Park supply was turned on a,nd will be used continuously, but it will be a few days before all of the Mount Richmond water in the mains and reservoir has been used up. The new supply will also be delivered to the new hospital at Otahuhu and the railway workshops. The new well is giving a flow of 28,800 gallons per hour, and as the borough demand in the summer averages 17,000 gallons an hour, there will be no restrictions of any kind.
