SEVERAL GOOD FINISHES
Racing reached a high standard at the combined meetings of the Auckland and Metropolitan professional cycling clubs during the past week at Western Springs At the evening meeting the half mile event' produced a wonderful finish, fiye riders', K. Knight, S. Litchfield, D. Doyle, R. Holden and J. Wade crossing the line with inches between them. The lastnamed was 20 yards behind rounding irfto the straight, and his was a great effort for he must have clocked 58s, at. the winner's was 57 2-ss. Knight went exceedingly well, as it was his first ride since the close of the road season. The two-mller was another good race, the middle men making the pace a cracker all the way, but the scratch men finally got them at the bell. A great race home then ensued, Whitten just downing Flfnkenberg by a wheel, with Wade next. W "uen fmigln it out in g-eat style after liic bird ride to get up, and FlmkeiiDeig once more demonstrated his ability as a SPl Jack'Bicknell was the outstanding rider at the afternoon meeting, notching two wins and two seconds in the four events decided His win in the two-miler was a brilliant one, for he was badly pocketed coming up the straight.
