SERVICEMEN INJURED

When the private motor car in which they were travelling skidded off the road at the corner of Pitt Street and Karangahape Road at noon yesterday. mounted the footpath and struck an iron telegraph pole, four American servicemen were injured, and the car extensively damaged. One of the Americans, the driver, suffered severe head injuries and a seriously torn shoulder; another received a fractured right leg; the third, head injuries, possible concussion, fractured knee and ankle; and the fourth; shock and bruises. The fifth American in the car was not injured. The injured men were taken to an American hospital in St. John ambulances.
