CHANGTEH FIGHTING
Chinese Report Enemy Use
Of Gas
Rec. 11.30. CHUNGKING, Dec. 12 Enemy remnants between Changteh and a point 13 miles to the northwest have been completely, wiped out says a Chinese communique. It adds that Japanese troops, under cover of gas attacks, counteiattacked the Chinese positions at Leirhiapu, with the result that many Chinese officers and men were poisoned.
North of Changteh, near Shihpan, and north-east, near Chinghoshis, the Japanese counter-attacked and fighting is continuing. Earlier the Associated Press reported that Japanese troops, fleeing from Changteh, clogged the main Shasi highway. Allied ,aircraft were strafing the fugitives it was added Independent reports have confirmed that the Changteh fighting is the most severe since Shanghai.
