A BRILLIANT SPRINT
TRAINING FOR TE AWAMUTU
By traversing five furlongs in brilliant fashion at Takanini this morning Sleepy £ ox galloped right into favour for sprint events ahead. Ridden by T. Green, he completed his task in 1.0 2-ss, the last three furlongs taking 36 2-ss. The son of Foxbridge finished in resolute style, and was nothing if not impressive. Most ot trie gallops were recorded on the £ ra <5 s .J rac \ n fxt the rails, although . Smith elected to use the plough track for his team. Merry May and Water Vixen recorded a good trial over seven furlongs in 1.29 4-5, the former, which is not usually a good track worker, excelling herseif to finish a length in front, thus gaining friends for her Te Awamutu engagement. Foxola was sent a similar distance alone, hitting out stylishly in 1.30 3-5. Brief showed speed while covering five furlongs in 1.1 3-5, a task which took Kittyora 1.2. The latter had the assistance of the Hest colt over the last half mile in 495. Laddie Boy cleared right away from Sousa in a similar task, but was not timed. On the plough Lord Chancellor, with the assistance of Jeff over the last six furlongs, ran a mile in 1.47, the last half mile taking 555, with Jeff four lengths behind his rival at the finish. Sweet Biscuit was going impressively alongside Route March at the end of five in 1.3, the juveniles Coronaire and Plassida being sent four furlongs, the last three taking 38 l-ss. Other gallops:— Five furlongs: Kentish and Royal Merit (on the plough), 1.3 1-5; Beau Vaals and Cambria, 1.4 2-5. * • Six furlongs: British Patrol and Spirillum, 1.16 2-5; Royal Advice and Master Mischief, last half mile 535; Cornish and Balfron (on the plough), 1.18 3-5.
