SOLDIERS' SONGS

OFFICIAL COLLECTION

APPEAL TO AUCKLAND MEJf

An official collection of soldiers' songs and war music associated with the N.Z.E.F in the Middle East and the Pacific is being made by the Achives Section at Army Headquarters. To ensure that the collection is as complete as possible, the co-operation is sought of all troops and other servicemen back in New Zealand from the present war. Flight-Sergeant T. J. Burnnand, the well-known musician and conductor, who served with the, 2nd N.Z.E.F in the Middle East, has been loaned to Army Archives to lay the foundation for this musical collection. It will be sufficient if those who come forward know the words and the tune of songs. Any returned soldiers prepared to help, but unable to meet Flight-Ser-geant Burnnand, are asked to send the words and music, if available, to the officer in charge of the Archives Section, Army Headquarters, Wellington. Already a considerable number of songs have been contributed, and in addition to songs in English, copies have been received of Greek, Free French and Polish songs learned by New Zealand troops in the Middle East. It is hoped later to publish the collection. Flight-Sergeant Burnnand will be in Auckland to-morrow at the Army Office, Maritime Buildings.
