SHOE RATIONING
"PAIR BASIS" RUMOUR DEFIED "Persistent rumours have been circulating during the past few weeks regarding the rationing of shoes on a pair basis, and stores have been inundated with customers wanting to buy extra pairs," said Mr. .Tames Stcnberg. president of the Auckland Drapers and Allied Retailers' Association, to-day. "The local office of the rationing controller states that no advice has been received that there is any intention to alter the present system of rationing shoes. "It is to be regretted," he added, "that rumours such as these are spread at a time when the efforts of the trade are extended to provide sufficient footwear and to ensure its equitable distribution."
