OSLO STUDENTS

TWO REACH SWEDEN Anti-Nazi Demonstrations In Switzerland N.Z. Press Association—Copyright Rec. 10 a.m. LONDON, Dec. 6. Two Norwegian students who escaped from Oslo after the promulgation of the Nazi deportation order have reached Sweden after 24 hours of continuous ski-ing and walking over the frozen countryside, says Reuters correspondent in Stockholm. They told correspondents how they saw their fellow-students at Oslo University arrested last Tuesday. The Norwegian underground movement told them what was coming, but the students did not believe it. Last Tuesday as they walked toward their classes German and Quisling police cars made for the university. The two children ran from the building and from a street car they saw students being bundled into military lorries. Machine-gun-ners were posted around Oslo Hospital while medical students were being arrested. The escapees said half the students who were being sought for deportation were believed to have escaped, but the Germans were still searching for them. The two students went by train to the 20-mile limit allowed by the Germans and then walked toward Sweden, a distance of 50 miles as the crow flies. Country people helped them and they arrived safely after a day and night on foot over country covered with ice and snow. University demonstrations occurred in Sweden and Switzerland on Saturday against the arrest of the Oslo students. Students at the Upsala University demonstrated in mass. Professors and students at the Zurich University held a protest meeting. The Basle University has planned a demonstration for Tuesday. Berlin radio said that the Norwegian security police had ordered all Oslo students to return to their homes and to report to the police. The students were warned not to leave their home areas without a permit.
