HAUL OF SHARKS
OIL DEMAND ON INCREASE (0.C.) WHANGAREI. this day. With its oil in increasing demand for medicinal purposes and other by-products gaining a ready market, the shark has a commercial value. Schools appeared in the Awanui harbour early this season and the local fishermen, instead of eluding the sharks, are pursuing them. From one boat over 300 have been taken, while another has passed the century mark. The common ground variety comprises the greater part of the haul, but several toheke, and at least one white death shark have been caught.
