CRICKET TRANSFERS

WHEN TEAMS ARE SHORT

SUBURBAN ASSOCIATION

Provision to meet a shortage of plasters which may occur in the next few weeks owing to the call of military duties was made last night at the meeting of the executive of the Auckland City and Suburban Association.

The acting-chairman, Mr. S. Learning, said that any present surplus of players should be permitted to register, and take part each Saturday, irrespective of their attachment to any club. This was agreed to, providing the players concerned applied each Saturday to the emergency committee for temporary registration, and be loaned to clubs being short of players. The question of using a new ball during the progress of a game under oneday rules was raised by Mr. W. R. Wilkie (Umpires' Association), who said that in a senior match last Saturday a new ball was produced after a team had made 150 runs in its first innings. He claimed that, according to the laws of cricket, 200 runs must be scored before a change of ball. Mr. F. Seaton said that the rule should not apply in one-day cricket where the match was commenced with a used ball. Mr. Learning ruled that a new ball must not be used until 200 runs were scored, and the umpires would be advised accordingly. The shortage of cricket balls, he said, would balance any apparent advantages. The transfer of F. Wood from Brixton to M.T.P. was approved. > Fixtures for Saturday:—Senior grade: M.T.P. v.
