SCRAM'S STEEPLES TAVERNSIDE AND NIGHT MIST (0.C.) CAMBRIDGE, this day. The weather is fine but overcast for the Waikato Hunt meeting here to-day. The attendance is large and the course holding, but otherwise in excellent order. Tavernside was always handily placed in the first division of the Bardowie Handicap, and he stayed on better than anything else to beat Exeter by half a length. Foxstar finished well for third, but Laddie Boy, after setting the pace and being one of the leading trio to the turn, tired quickly in the last furlong. Vafer Flame finished well for fourth. Boystown also finished well. Gold Moth and Golden One were prominent in the middle stages.

In the second division Night Mist, securing a run on the rails, came away to win decisively. Nepeta, which Jed in the middle stages and was right up at the turn, stuck on for second in front of Corsac, whose forward showing was indicative of better things. Victory Torch was always In the picture, but weakened into fourth. Gold Cape tired when the pressure was applied. Scram was naving her first start at a totalisator meeting, but the fact that she had recently won a treble at a sports meeting resulted in her going out a pronounced favourite. Taking the initiative at the outset, she gave a clever exhibition. After Jill went out of the contest early she was always travelling like a winner. Passing the stand with a round to go she was followed by Kittle, Scudder, Mark Anthony, Ika Moana and Caurnle. Along the back Scram was a length clear of Kittle, with Ika Moana gradually making up leeway. This trio turned for home clear of the balance of ihe field, and Scram held on in the straight to score nicely by five lengths from Ika Moana, which outstayed Kittle in the straight. Caurnie was fourth, followed by Mark Anthony, Scudder, The Dude and Sunapoly. Tabulan fell along the back and Jill at the next fence. Moko Moka. Eran Rose and Passionace failed to complete the course. End to End Victory Winning Tray won the Hunters' Hurdles from end to end, and though challenged >y Watchett over the last half mile, he iad sufficient in reserve In the straight to carry on for a decisive victory. Prince Guard was pulled up early. Winning Tray went past the stand with a round to go

from Watchett, Etaro, Show Day and Theme Song. There was no nltcr.nion along the back, Winning Tray outjumping Watchett across the top and leading into the straight just clear of Watchett, F.taro and Gold Age. At the last fence Show Day fell and Gold Age crashed over him. Winning tray carried on and his margin over Watchett at the post was two lengths, with Etaro three lengths further away. Strong Thread was fourth, with Gay Opal and Cherry Hunter next. Detailed results:— BARDOTrtE HANDICAP of £175. Seven furlonss.
