SICK LEAVE CLAUSE
TRAMWAY AGREEMENT
BOARD GRANTS REQUEST
A sick leave clause which has been desired by the Auckland Tramway Union has been inserted in the new agreement which the Auckland Transport Board has offered the union, following a meeting of the board in committee, and a meeting between the chairman of the board, Mr. W. H. Nagle, and representatives of the union. The union has accepted the agreement, and the board this morning adopted the report.
Subject to the approval of the Arbitration Court, the clause provides that for a trial period of 12 months, beginning as soon as practicable after October 1, all employees except weekly wage men (who already receive certain sick . leave pay), with at least 18 months' service, shall be entitled to claim payment for days lost through sickness.
Among the conditions are that the maximum amount of sick leave payable shall not exceed eight days, at the rate of 15 days per annum, and shall not exceed five consecutive working days in any one period of sickness, providing that all such days must come within the first seven days of incapacity.
The board has also decided to offer the sick leave clause to the Engineers' Union in lieu of further considering the' union's claims for superannuation.
