The Mayor. Mr. C. R. Petrie, M.P., presided at the monthly meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council. . ~ , ~„„ Workers' Educational Association. —An application for a donation was received from the Workers' Educational Association, but the council decided to take no action. Government Housing.—An amended plan in connection with a property on tho corner of Avenue Road and Albert Street, on which it is the intention ot tne Government to erect 27 houses, was approved. Engineer's Report.—The borough engineer reported that a serious leak had developed In the high pressure water tower at Mt. Richmond, and earlv repair work was essential. The tower is 100 ft "high, 25ft wide and 15ft deep. Building Permits. —Permits to the value of £5500 for the erection of two residences in Mason Avenue an'd £595 for minor buildings, were Treasurer's Report.—The borough treasurer reported that up to the discount date the sum of £11051 had been paid on account of current rates This sum represents 56.3 per cent of the total, compared with last year's percentage of Waste Taper Collection.—A further effort is to be made to obtain a depot for the storage of waste paper in an endeavour to assist the Auckland committee. ~_,,„, Street Day Appeal.—Permission for the united Orphanages to hold a street collection on October 22 was granted.
