SECONDARY INDUSTRIES
The president of the Auckland Manufacturers' Association, Mr. W. J. Truscott, stated at a meeting yesterday that in an election address a Labour candidate had said that only industries which could operate without protection would survive after the war. The matter had been referred to the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, and Messrs. Nash and Sullivan The last-named had been authorised to reply that such was not the policy of the Government, and the candidate had expressed his personal views. it , ~ Mr. Truscott said that the forthcoming conference at Napier of the Manufacturers' Federation would be the most important gathering of the kind ever held in New Zealand.
