FIRE BRIGADE MOYE
OTAHUHU APPOINTMENTS
Negotiations between the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board, the Otahuhii Borough Council and the Otahuhu Volunteer Fire Brigade for the establishment of a station of permanent brigadesmen at Otahuhu for the duration of the war were finalised at last evening's meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council. These negotiations were the outcome of a Government measure for the protection of Government property in the three big stores in the district and make provision for the appointment of eight permanent metropolitan firemen at Otahuhu, who will be housed in hutments at the back of the present Otahuhu fire station. Two additional fire engines are to be provided. Members of the Otahuhu Volunteer Brigade waited upon the council, and after a full discussion, in which certain of the brigade's objections were cleared up, it was decided to accept the fire board's proposals for the duration of the war only. The Mayor, Mr. C. R. Petrie, M.P.„ stated that the Otahuhu brigade's position would be fully protected. The new arrangements, which will come into force almost immediately, provide for the permanent men to attend all fires in the borough, as well as in the Mangere riding. The members of the Otahuhu Volunteer Brigade on duty at the time of calls will back up the permanent men.
