COUNCIL OF WOMEN
At the monthly meeting of the Auckland branch of the National Council of Women held yesterday a housing committee was set up to study housing accommodation for women workers in essential industries in the large towns. The president, Miss A. H. G. Basten, presided., and attending the meeting were the Mayoress, Mrs. J. A. C. Allum, Mrs. J. Henderson, of Onewhero, president of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union, and Mrs. S. N. Ziman, president of the Hamilton branch of the council. An address was given by Dr. Doris Gordon on the projected establishment of a complete women's hospital in Auckland to serve not only local needs in obstetrics and gynaecology, but also to serve the whole Dominion as a post-graduate training centre in these subjects. The meeting unanimously resolved to congratulate the Prime Minister and the Ministers of Health and Education on the recent announcement that the Government intended to proceed with this plan.
