THREE MILLION VOLUNTEERS
There are more than three million American women volunteers in the seven Volunteer Special Service Corps of the American Red Cross. An average of one million garments a month for bombed 'out civilians in Britain, Russia, China and other United Nations were made last year by the Production Corps. The Volunteer Nurses Aide Corps has grown from 364 aides in 1941 to 50,000. These women received their certificate for 150 hours work in February, 1943. Members of the Staff Assistance Corps act as information experts public speakers, clerical workers, and telephone operators at Red Cross centres. They finger-print workers in war plants, and work with the Foreign Inquiry Service, accepting messages for prisoners and civilians abroad. The Canteen Corps has 75,000 members trained for community feeding, in case of disasters. They feed men of the Army on request of the commanding officer, prepare school lunches and feed children of war working mothers in day I nurseries. The Grey Ladies, 15,000 in number, perform countless services for the ill and convalescent patients in federal and civilian hospitals. The Home Service Volunteers, about /000 in all, help service men and their families solve their problems, the Motor Corps has 30,000 members who drive mobile feeding units and Army, vehicles, take donors to blood banks and meet ships with evacuees.
