PREPARING FOR PAEROA
ACTIVITIES AT TAKANINI On a track which was as heavy as at any previous stage of the winter, Takanini track-watchers were treated to serviceable work only on Saturday morning. No fresh light was thrown on the prospects of Paeroa candidates, as l no trainer elected to seriously test his charges in the conditions on the outside grass track. Monte Cristo worked stylishly over five furlongs, and was going better than his companion, Foxola, at tlie end in 1.10 2-5. Similar time was credited to Kentish, which received a good deal of weight from Route March and finished in front. If taken to the races on Saturday, they should run well. The smartest half-mile was run by La Fillette and Tellsom, 53 3-ss, but this gallop was from the mile to the halfmile, and, in comparison, was not as good as the 54s recorded by Sleepy Fox from the half-mile post. Yorkish, Laddie Boy, Sousa, Eagle Hawk and Sweet Bisquit were among others to infuse dash into their tasks. Details:— Two Furlongs.—Mild Flutter, Gay Chat, 2G 2-os; Ballroom, 28s.
