LOAN OF £540,000

CITY COUNCIL'S ACTION The Auckland City Council at a special meeting this afternoon passed a special order to borrow £5-10,000 by way of a special loan, to be known as the waterworks extension loan, 1943, to provide for an additional water supply by the construction of a dam in the Lower Nihotupu Valley, the erection of a pumping station and filters, the laying of a pipeline to the city, and for the surveys, investigation and clearing work necessary. The resolution was moved by the Mayor, Mr. Allum, and carried without discussion. The loan is to be raised at a rate of interest not. exceeding 3i per cent, and will be for a period not exceeding thirty years. The town clerk, Mr. Jas. Melling, reported that the Governor-General had given consent for the council to raise the loan for waterworks to increase the supply available to the city.
