SICK PAY REQUEST

TRAMWAY EMPLOYEES A deputation, comprising Messrs. F. Hackett, J. Hoole, A. Speck and E. Whitlow, representing the Auckland Tramway Workers' Union, waited on the Auckland Transport Board to-day and asked that provision for sick pay be written into the industrial agreement which was to be submitted to the Arbitration Court for ratification. The speakers pointed out that in the award covering the tramway employees in Wanganui, provision was made for full pay for sickness up to 15 days each year, the payment not to exceed five days consecutive sickness pay. It was pointed out that the employee in Auckland received little or nothing during the first week of sickness, and this constituted the real hardship. The Transport Club provided £1 10/ a week, but not until after the first three days of sickness. The board decided to give the matter urgent consideration.
