Economic Administration In Overseas Areas
MR. LEO T. CROWLEI DIRECTOR British Official Wireless Rec. 11 a.m. WASHINGTON, Sep. 26. President Roosevelt has announced the creation of the office of Foreign Economic Administration, to centralise activities formerly carried out by officers of the Lend-Lease Administration, Foreign <Stelief and Rehabilitation, and Economic Warfare. Mr. Leo T. Crowley, Director of Economic Warfare, will become Foreign Economic Administrator.
President Roosevelt has announced that the Under-Secretary of State, Mr. Sumner Welles, has resigned. He will be succeeded by Mr. Edward R Stettinius. Mr. Roosevelt added that Mr. Welles desired to be relieved of his heavy duties owing to the state of his wife's health. Mr Stettinius, who is 42, previously held the position of LendLease Administrator. He resigned his positions with United States Steel Corporation in 1940 upon his appointment to the Advisory Committee to the United States Council of National Defence. He became chairman of the War Resources Board and was later connected with the Office of Production Management Mr. Stettinius has been special assistant to Mr. Roosevelt since 1941. CANADIAN ELECTION NO DECISION REACHED British Official Wireless Rec. 2 p.m. RUGBX, September 26. At the conclusion of a Liberal party caucus in Ottawa, the Canadian Prime Minister, Mr. Mackenzie King, said the holding of a general election in Canada had been discussed, but no decision had been reached. He might have a statement to make before the opening of the National Liberal Federation meeting to-morrow.
