A RUMOUR DENIED
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sunday. The unusual course of permitting an electoral notification to be broadcast on the morning of the polling was authorised by the Mini-.'er of Broadcasting. Mr. Wilson on Saturday, when 2YA issued a statement denying a rumour that Mr. N. P. Croft, National candidate for Hutt, had withdrawn from the contest. A rumour, to this effect had been officially denied by Mr. Croft earlier in the week, but it had apparently persisted. The rumour was that Mr. Croft had intimated his withdrawal and was urging National party supporters to vote for the Independent candidate, Mr. J. Hogan
