U.S.S. SHANGRI-LA

WAR STAMPS TO BUILD IT

WASHINGTON. The United States is to have a new aircraft carrier financed by a campaign for the sale of war savings stamps, and it is to be named the U.S.S. Shangri-La. President Roosevelt, who once told a persistent dinner guest that the aeroplanes which bombed Tokyo had been based on Shangri-La has approved the christening of the new flat-top after the mythical lotus-land of "The Lost Horizon." Its construction will be the result of a popular movement launched by retailers, theatres and newstand boys to sell one dollar in war stamps to every American to pay for an aircraft carrier from which Tokyo will be bombed again.
