OBITUARY

SENIOR SERGEANT D. AUSTIN

Senior .Sergeant Donald Austin who has died in Wellington, was one of the six police officers presented with the King's Police Medal He received the decoration when as a sergeant in Hamilton in November, 1940, he rescued a woman from drowning in the Waikato River After joining the police force in April, 1916, Senior Sergeant Austin was stationed at Invercargill Greymouth, Dunedin, Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga and Wellington He was aged 51 at the time of his death
