CHANGES ANNOUNCED

Chancellor Of Exchequer, Sir John Anderson

Rec. 1 p.m. LONDON, Sept. 24. The King has approved of the following Cabinet appointments:— Lord President of the Council. — Mr. C. R. Attlee. Chancellor of the Exchequer.—Sir John Anderson. Secretary for ..the Dominions.— Lord Cranborne. Lord Privy Seal.—Lord BeaverrMin'ister of State.—Mr. Richard Law.

Mr. Attlee will continue to act as Deputy-Prime Minister, Sir. John Anderson will be a member of the War Cabinet, and Lord Cranborne will have access to the War Cabinet both as Secretai-y for the Dominions and Leader of the House of Lords. Mr. Law will assist the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Eden. Other consequential appointments will be announced later. Mr. R. G. Casey will in future be officially described as Minister of State resident in the Middle East.

The appointment of Sir John Anderson as Chancellor of the Exchequer fills the vacancy caused by the death this week of Sir Kingsley Wood. Sir John is succeeded by Mr. Attlce as Lord President of the Council.

SCHNEIDER WORKS

SABOTEURS BLOW UP PYLONS Rec. 10 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 24. French saboteurs have blown up the pylons which carried the electric high-tension cables supplying the Schneider munitions works at Le Creusot. The electric current is completely cut off, says the Swiss newspaper Tribune de Geneve.

WAGES IN MEXICO

Rec. 10 a.m. MEXICO CITY, Sep. 24. The President of Mexico, General Manuel Camacho, has signed a decree, which will become effective on October i, freezing for the duration of the war the wages of all workers who earn more than two dollars a day. Workers earning less than two dollars are to be granted increases of 5 to 50 per cent.
