HADDOCKS
One day a poor, cruel fishmonger was calling out: "Haddocks! Fresh haddocks !" in the street, at the same time treating his donkey cruelly. A woman, watching from an upper window, grew angry at this and called out: "Man, man ! Have you no mercy? "Sorry, ma'am," was the reply. "Nothing but haddocks !" —From Michael Corban, Henderson.
