Japanese Destroyed In North Of Arundel Island RAIDS ON GUADALCANAK British Official Wireless Rec. 1 p.m. RUGBY, Sept. 23. "Early on Monday morning six Japanese planes dropped bombs in the vicinity of the airstrip at Guadalcanal'," states a United States Navy communique. "Light damage to material and installations was sustained, but no casualties were suffered.

"On Tuesday morning 12 or 16 enemy bombers were over Guadalcanal-. There was slight damage and some casualties were sustained. Two enemy planes were shot down by fighters."

United States ground forces in the Solomons.have destroyed the remaining Japanese forces on the northern shores of Arundel Island, between New Georgia and Kolombangara. Enemy troops on the adjacent Sagakarasa Island have also been mopped up. Artillery on Kolombangara Island heavily shelled American positions on Arundel Island, causing light casualties.

During recent operations the transport and cargo ship John Penn, after landing passengers and cargo at forward destinations, was bombed and sunk by the enemy while returning to Guadalcanal - .
