BUTTER RATIONING
"UNDER CONSIDERATION"
STATEMENT BY MINISTER
(0.C.) WHANGAREI, this day. Butter rationing in New Zealand was under consideration at the present time, and he thought it would be introduced, said the Minister of Marketing, Mr. Barclay, speaking at Kaiwaka yesterday. The organisation of such control was difficult in a primary producing country where it would be impossible to ration farmers themselves, or prevent them from supplying friends.
Although last season had been affected by drought and reductions in fertiliser, manpower and herd numbers, he anticipated that dairy production in the coming year would be restored to 155,000 tons made in the year before the war.
