COMMUNITY TRUCK

GOODS TRANSPORT

INQUIRY BY AUTHORITY

When in Northland last week the No. 1 Transport Licensing Authority, Mr. E. J. Phelan, held a meeting at Kaikohe, when there was wide representation to discuss transport problems. For many years transport for the big Hokianga district was provided almost solely by boat services, but now the community truck has become a competitor. A community truck is fully loaded at Auckland, dispatched to the railhead in the north at Okaihau, and from there the freight is distributed. It was stated at the meeting that the truck service was having a detrimental effect on shipping serving the north. Mr. Pneian will make a report to the Minister of Transport.
