They || took part in the A.I.F. landing north II of Lae and the Allied paratroop |I landing in Markham Valley. Boom- i , erangs have been in use for several ip weeks on the Mubo, Nassau and Salamaua fronts, but their existence jfi has been kept secret. The Minister of Aircraft Produc- jy tion, Senator Cameron, said the |i Boomerang was a single-seater, lowwing monoplane using all-metal construction for wings and fuselage I] frame. The plane was fitted with a f! long-range belly tank which could |\ be jettisoned when the fuel was fj used. The Boomerang was produced in • ( record time by the Commonwealth ff Aircraft Corporation. It was on the j' drawing board in February, 1942, || and the first machine was in the i|| air in July, 1942. Quantity produc- p tion was then obtained, also in record time.
