SOCCER REP. ENGAGEMENT
■ The last series of games in the second round of the Gallaher Shield coincides v.'itn an interesting position in that competition for the Auckland senior Rugby championship. Garrison is leading Jlanukail and i.larist toy a couple of points, so that the soldiers have a draw in when they meet Technical Old Boys at Kden Park to-morrow.
Although beaten 22—3 by Garrison in the iirst round, Technical subsequently nad many fine performances to its credit, and of 13 matches played it won five and drew three.
The game to-morrow is tiie curtainraiser on the Oval, and if the Seddon -Memorial oid boys "pull it off," the later contest on No. l (liarist v. Navy) and mat on No. 2 field (Jlanukau v. GraftonPonsor.by) will be invested with extraordinary interest. For defeat of Garrison will give both Marist and Manukau a chance of again levelling up the championship. The three teams were all square earlier in the second round, and a similar position after to-morrow's programme would necessitate a semi-final and final to decide the championships. It will be "Chairman's Dav" at Garlaw Park to-morrow, and .Mr. J." w. Watson has called upon Richmond to challenge Manukau, the championship winner of 1930-12-43. The Maoris' only defeat this winter was S—7 by Richmond in the first round. In their second meeting on July 10 Manukau had its revenue, (i—2. The other game on No. 1 to-morrow is City Rovers v. Marist Old Coys, while on No. 2 (at 3 p.m.) Newton plays North Shore—this fixture also counting for the Roope Rooster knock-out competition. In addition, Comrades meets Eastern Suburbs in a senior contest, and unless the former XI is victorious in the curtainraiser the championship will be over, with Metro-College the winner. All four matches in the sixth round of the Auckland Hockey Association's Devonport Shield competition will be played at Papatoetoe to-morrow. Training College should be able to account for St. Luke's. Grammar O.B.'s' XI. is expected to put up a good light against University, the leading team. If tile former be successful, then the Teachers take the lgad. The Somerville-Mount Eden match should provide some thrilling hockey, while a dour struggle is likely to ensue when Wesley United and Owai Rovers take the field.
