SURVEY PROMISED

ROAD TUNNEL SCHEME (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. A promise that a survey would be made of the possibility of constructing a road tunnel between Christchurch and Lyttelton was made by the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, to-day, after hearing . a deputation which asked for the construction of such tunnel as rehabilitation work in the immediate post-war period. The deputation, which consisted of representatives of all Cliristchurch local bodies, the Trades Council, and the Lyttelton Waterside Workers' Union, was heard by Mr. Fraser and several other Ministers.

It was stated by a member of the deputation that the project would have cost £480,000 in 1930, and Mr Fraser, m reply, said the project appealed to him.
