OVER 500 ARMY TRUCKS
SALES IN SOUTH ISLAND
(0.C.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day.
Army truck releases at the Christchurch and Blenheim vehicle reception depots now total 520 and their sale value is £130,416. These figures, given by the district officer of the Transport Department (Mr. N. JorjO to-dav, exclude vehicles sold to other Government Departments. Commenting on the figures, the No. 3 Transport Licensing Authority (Mr T. H. Langford) said every effort had been made to spread the vehicles throughout the South Island and to send them to people who were concerned in the main with essential production. The vehicles generally, said Mr. Langford, had been found in a good state of repair, and reflected creditably on the army personnel responsible for their maintenance.
Many trucks were still wanted by civilian users, but that demand would be met as soon as the vehicles became available.
