ARMS FOR FOOD
BARTER IN DENMARK Danes Getting Results By Opposing Invaders N.Z. Press Association —Copyright Rec. 11 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 26. A Danish official in London has revealed that patriots throughout Denmark for many months have been gathering arms from German occupation troops, who are bartering them for food which they send home to their families.
A former Danish Minister of Commerce, M. Moeller, told a Daily Mail writer that there was no doubt the Germans were in a high .state of nerves. "The Danes are educated, logical people," he said. "They have been patient a long time under German occupation, but now see that they can get results by opposing the invaders. They mean to get results quickly."
British paratroops are partly responsible for the wave of sabotage sweeping Denmark, says the Stockholm Tidningen. A considerable number of paratroops landed recently. The patriots give them full help and wreak ruthless vengeance on informers.
Further incidents have occurred. At an island north of Copenhagen a bomb exploded 011 board a big German vessel and killed some of the German crew. Then Danish workers stopped work and demonstrated in the streets. They broke the flagstaff before the German Consulate and held a protest meeting against working for the Germans. At Vejly, on the east coast of Jutland, workers downed tools in a factory making goods for the German Army. Fresh disturbances are said to have occurred at Odense and 15 persons were killed. Swedish newspapers state that last Monday 6000 workers making materials for German submarines went on strike in Copenhagen. The port of Helsingor is the latest Danish city to have shown marked hostility to the Germans. Disturbances followed a bomb explosion on a 10,000-ton enemy merchant ship in the harbour. Further upheavals have occurred in Copenhagen, where a factory turning out war equipment for the Germans was completely wrecked by sabotage.
