CORRESPONDENTS' VIEWS
LEAVE IT TO THE TEACHER (To the Editoi 4 ) There have been numerous letters on the subject of sex education in the Press lately, and many people"; seem to think that the school, is the-' place for such a subject to be taught. May I point out that already the school time-tables are crowded to bursting point, and if the parents are going to shelve some more of their responsibility on to. the teachers : (who, at the present time, are apparently responsible for the children's entire up-bringing, including diet and apparel, the parents merely producing the children, and providing a bed for them to sleep in at night), then such subjects as drawing, nature study and essay writing, the usefulness of which to the ordinary child have long been a matter of dispute, should be deleted. After that happens perhaps we shall have.' enough time to devote ourselves to_ making sex teaching acceptable to the 10-vear-olds and over, for it will have to start with them to be of any use at all, not at high school age, as many people mistakenly think. I sincerely hope, however, that the parents will not shelve their responsibility. They are the right people for the job. MARRIED WOMAN TEACHER.
