A GROWING PROBLEM
LODGINGS FOR GIRLS
EMPLOYERS SHOULD ASSIST
A contest for 'the services of a young woman took placo at a sitting of the Auckland Industrial Manpower Committee yesterday afternoon. The matter arose out of an appeal by Miss R. D. Robinson for permission to leave Ross and Glcndining, Ltd., where she was employed as a machinist, in order to accept a position with a public institute.
The appellant referred to the difficulty of obtaining suitable accommodation, and said that in the position which she sought she would be able to live in. The chairman, Mr. J. O. Liddell, said there was a growing problem in regard to the accommodation of girls. If employers wished to keep experienced girls they had some responsibility in assisting them to secure accommodation. The committee, however, had to deal with the appeals on their merits and with reference to the relative importance of an employee's services to the country.
On the grounds that the appellant would be of greater service in the public institute, the appeal was allowed.
