Progerss in all Sicilian Battles
EIGHTH ARMY'S POWER British And Canadians Outlast Enemy Sn Stamina ( N.Z.P.A.— Copyright.—Rec. 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, August 3. "The Allies were making steady progress everywhere in Sicily, and enemy counter-attacks have been repelled at all points," declared Cairo radio. "The British Eighth Army's onslaught south of Catania is tremendous." A senior British commander told Reuters correspondent With the Eighth Army that the fighting for the mountain towns of Regalbuto and Centuripe were the fiercest he had ever known. "The German casualties," he said, "were terrific. Dead soldiers were lying in piles, while those still fighting were very weary. Once again it is clear that in the matter of stamina the British and Canadians are emerging winners. The defenders have had all the advantages of ground and supplies."
